Van Lettering

Van Lettering Examples

Van lettering is a simple, but effective way to get your businesses name out there. Depending on what kind of design you use, you can convey certain messages. With van lettering and lettering on other vehicles, your company name is more likely to be seen, due to your companies logo not being stationary. A wider audience will mean more business for you and your company.

The Message Being Conveyed

Balch Springs is a city, 16 miles away from Dallas, which borders Mesquite. Balch Springs is a growing community with a population of around 25,000. It was first settled around 1840 and was incorporated as a city in 1953 to avoid becoming part of Dallas. When Balch Springs approached us, they had just created a new design for their logo (the leaf design shown below.) This design is good for several reasons. The logo is eye catching, yet simple enough that once you process the logo, you can read the name, Balch Springs, and the letters beneath, and understand what they are advertising. For this lettering, we printed three different shapes. One big leaf, one small leaf, and then the letters themselves. Then we laid them on the van individually.

How and Why Van Letting Can Be Effective

For the Balch Springs van, the design is very minimal. While being minimal though, the design is eye-catching. This means that customers will quickly know what your company name is.what your business is, and what you are offering. In this example, we used tricolor prints. This is another example of how sometimes less can be a better option. If there are many different colors, processing the information on the van quickly would be difficult, but with fewer colors and a simpler format, a viewer finds this easier to read with limited time.

Common Store Signs

Some of the most common store signs you will see used by our customers are shown here. The signs that will be discussed in this article range from metal signs to wood signs of all shapes and sizes. These signs are created using various materials and techniques. Depending on what type of business you run, different types of signs can be beneficial to you and your business. Richardson Bike Mart Mobile Repair Van

Richardson Bike Mart Mobile Repair Van

richardson bike mart mobile repair van 2 smThe Richardson Bike Mart mobile repair van is a new service offered by the venerable bike shop starting in 2016. They have been a fixture in the biking community since the 1960s in the Dallas area. They have grown steadily over the years. As part of their growth, the Richardson Bike Mart has supported the Hotter than Hell Hundred for years and supports other local biking events.

Accurate Signs has worked with them on a number of projects. Recently they came to us to help them with their mobile repair van. They take it to local and regional biking events to promote their business and support the participants. Also, you can set up an appointment for the van to come to your location. Here is the link to make an appointment.

Full Wrap of Older Van

richardson bike mart mobile repair van 1 smThe van was not new and the original paint on the van is black. So we tried several options with a patterned background that completely covered the van. But the Richardson Bike Mart decided to cover the van with a solid blue vinyl instead of a pattern. Then we added the cut vinyl designs on top of that. This design made for a very clean and easy to read wrap. The van looks as if it is painted blue because all sides are completely covered.

We Love Bikes!

Bike Mart wanted to wrap the van to emphasize that they are available to take care of your biking needs any where needed. As they say, “We love bikes! We race bikes, we ride bikes, we repair bikes, and we support bikes.” They want to make cycling better for people in the Dallas area. The van is an extension of what they do in the stores.

We Love Richardson Bike Mart

But we are not just marketing partners of the Bike Mart we are fans, too. Frank Block, who founded Accurate Signs, has long been a cyclist and has shopped at Richardson Bike Mart for 20 years. Doug Barton, who works at Accurate signs, bought three bicycles five years ago for the entire family for Christmas. There is nothing like a new bicycle sitting next to the Christmas tree to excite the kid in all of us.

Mini Thunder Truck for Five Year Old

Mini Thunder Truck

Five year old Michael Harmon is driving a mini thunder truck just his size thanks to his grandmother and Accurate Signs. Michael has already decided he wants to chase storms when he grows up. Below is a photo of the truck as Brent (Accurate Signs  is installing the vinyl.

When his grandmother called Accurate Signs we recommended that she contact the NBC affiliate here in Dallas. We told her to let them know that Michael had his own version of their storm chaser truck. She thought that was a great idea so sent a photo of her grandson sitting in the truck. The television station was so taken with the five year old in his vehicle that they coordinated a meeting with Michael and the real thing.

Thunder Truck and Mini Me

Click on this video link to see Michael with his truck next to the real thing. David Finfrock, chief meteorologist for NBC in the DFW, was on hand as well and spoke with Michael about his truck. Watch for Michael on Halloween as he drives from house to house in his mini thunder truck.

The actual NBC Thunder Truck is a Ford F-250 Super Duty. It has onboard radar system, a 2 Ghz microwave transmission system with three, wireless POV cameras that can be pointed in any direction, and dual/redundant power sources. This allows the truck to chase and report live from anywhere in the DFW area.

Installatoin Tip

Brent realized that in order to apply the thin lightening bolts to the truck he needed to cut the vinyl and then apply the entire sheet of white vinyl to the truck. He then weeded out the material that was excess.

It was fun to see the transformation of the truck and see the excitement of Michael’s grandmother when she saw it. Happy customers make our day!

Tour de Fleurs at the Dallas Arboretum

Tour de Fleurs

Each year the Dallas Arboretum hosts a run that starts and ends at the garden. The Tour de Fleurs, as it is called, has several short run options as well as a 20k for the more serious runners. They host the event each year in September. It gets started before the sun is up and ends with a live band and sponsor giveaways.

Participants enjoying the Tour de Fleurs on the lawn of the Dallas Arboretum.

Thousands of Runners

The event hosts thousands of runners for an early morning run starting at the Dallas Arboretum and running around White Rock Lake. The event is family and pet friendly. The serious runners start first followed by all the people who are there to enjoy the weather and scenery.

Accurate Signs is a Sponsor

For the last several years Accurate Signs has been a sponsor of the event. We give-away stress dice that are 3 square. We have fun throwing the dice to contestants as they trudge up the hill after running their race. Each year we receive requests from a dozen or so teachers who want to get a pair of the dice to use as a teaching aid. We always comply with their wishes. The children have the most fun chasing their dice down the hill. Their are dozens of other sponsors who give away food, drink, and other trinkets to the runners.

Mount Hebron Christian Academy

New Lettering

Mount Hebron Christian Academy frontAccurate Signs helped Mount Hebron Christian Academy with their permanent sign. They needed to put their school name on their building and wanted to put it in two locations. We listened to what they needed and recommended Gemini letters for the project for several reasons.  Gemini letters look great, come in a wide variety of fonts and colors (including custom colors), and they are guaranteed for life. Accurate Signs is a licensed distributor of Gemini products for the Dallas area. We have not been disappointed with their products.

Mount Hebron Christian Academy backMount Hebron Christian Academy uses a Christian-based curriculum. This includes working together with parents to insure strong academic and moral development essential for success. The school has programs for preschool students through second grade. They also have before and after school programs.

Installation

Gemini letters can be ordered with a variety of installation hardware. The letters for Mount Hebron Christian Academy are stud mounted. Each letter has two or more studs sticking out the back of the letter. The letters come with a drill pattern. The pattern is attached to the building where the letters are to be applied. Then a drill hole is made at each stud point on the diagram. Once all the drill holes are made the pattern can be removed and each letter is affixed to the wall using silicon adhesive. In rare circumstances this adhesive could fail after several years.

Repairs

If one or more of the stud mounts fail then it is relatively easy to pry the letter off the wall. You can then do a quick cleaning in and around the drill hole and refill the hole with new silicon adhesive. Put the letter back in place and hold for a couple of minutes to let it set. It is best to do installs in mild weather. Extremely cold weather could compromise the adhesive qualities of the silicon.

Guaranteed for Life

Custom designed Gemini letters - Mount Hebron Christian Academy used standard Gemini letters

An example of custom Gemini lettering.

If anything happens to one of the letters they will be replaced at no charge. I recently had a customer call about replacing their Gemini letters. I took photos of the letters and sent them to Gemini. They immediately agreed to replace the letters at no charge. The letters were many years old (15 years?) and several had been damaged due to sun and other weather related circumstances. It appeared that several were damaged by an extreme hail storm. Guaranteed for life is a guarantee.

Fleet Engineering Department Testimonial

Fleet Engineering Department

I work in the fleet engineering department of a large organization in the Dallas area. We have hundreds of vehicles in our fleet. I worked with Accurate Signs on a special project and was very pleased with their work. They met with me one-on-one to access the needs of our organization.

Special Project

Our need was simply five decals but there were many dynamics to achieve a complete package.  We needed to draw attention to our vehicle’s presence and not be distracting simultaneously.  Once the process began, the desire for an attractive design became paramount because fleet-wide deployment represents who we are as an organization. Accurate Sign’s dynamic versatility allowed us to produce a five decal set that met or exceeded every required specification with an appearance that complimented the public image we desire to maintain.

Quality Service

Doug Baton with Accurate Signs went over and beyond the design process and helped with the logistics of product delivery to achieve seamless implementation across 150 Vehicles.  We received the decals timely and well organized. Throughout the process Accurate Signs communicated clearly with me and the rest of the team working on the project.  We are very happy with the work that Accurate Signs did for us and recommend them highly.

Scary Electrical Discoveries

Look What We Found! Scary Electrical Discoveries

Scary electrical Discoveries On occasion when we are doing repairs we make some very scary electrical discoveries. In most cases the work is not really dangerous. It is just sloppy or inefficient. However, sometimes we come across situations that are potentially dangerous. Here are a couple of photos of a pole sign in the Dallas area that had been retrofitted with electrical hardware that is designed for interior, residential lighting. Scary electrical DiscoveriesWe were shocked when we removed the sign face. We saw pairs of fluorescent lights plugged into a dozen electrical sockets. These sockets were not rated for external use and posed a significant risk for catastrophic failure. At least they were smart enough to keep the electrical off the bottom of the sign where water can collect and short out unprotected circuits.

Worldwide Chain – Bad Electrical

Recently, this has occurred when we took over sign and electrical maintenance for a large, International restaurant chain. We repaired several external lights for one of their local restaurants. We found that a ballast had been replaced for one of the lights, however, the ballast was physically larger than the one being replaced. The problem was the new ballast was too big to fit in the protective enclosure. As a result the ballast was attached to the wall exposed to the elements. Our assumption is that the previous electrician did not want to get the right size ballast and so used the one they had on the truck even though it did not fit. Now it no longer works.

Ballasts and Tubes Should Match

We have replaced numerous interior lights in high ceilings over the last year. At three separate locations we found that mismatched hardware was a contributing factor to the failure of the lights. Ballasts and fluorescent lights are rated for their output. If the tubes are not rated the same as the ballasts then one, the other, or both will fail much sooner than they should.

It is not necessarily dangerous that they are mismatched but it can contribute to a ballast burning out early. Or the ballast can overheat which will cause the units internal switch to shut the ballast off. Once the ballast cools down it will activate again. If too much power is forced into a fluorescent tube it will begin to develop dark spots near the ends as it overheats. Dark spots are a natural consequence of tubes burning out but it should be years not months for this to occur.

To avoid your own scary electrical discoveries find a sign shop that has a history of providing high quality installation and repair work.

Long Draw Beer Systems with RSI

Long Draw Beer Systems

long draw beer walk-in cooler

Walk-in cooler for the beer lines.

RSI develops and installs specialized long draw beer systems for clients throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area. Their latest customer is Biergarten which is a new bar located in downtown Dallas near the Omni Hotel. Here is a link to RSI’s post about this system. Long draw beer systems can be complex installations for a number of reasons. First, the beer lines must remain cold to protect the beer from going bad. That means that the kegs as well as the entire length of the distribution tubing has to stay cold all the way to the tap at the bar.

One Keg – Multiple Taps

Second, the system must be set up to allow easy access by the bar personnel. Cold beer is useless if the bartenders cannot get it poured for the patrons. The beer pull system set up at the Biergarten provides three taps for each beer. Though the taps are located at different distances from the storage area the pressure is the same for each because the system was set up using restrictor tubing for each run.

Taps Accent the Interior Design

Third, in almost every situation the restaurant owner wants a unique configuration for their taps. Something that fits with the interior design, effectively displays the available beers as well as being convenient for the employees to use. One of the taps draws liquors. This tap is design to freeze the humidity in the air so that it is constantly covered with a layer of ice. Though this effect is dependent on the relative humidity and temperature in the bar it creates a very nice effect.

Green Grocers On Lower Greenville

GREAT SELECTION at GREEN GROCERS

Green Grocers exteriorIf you really don’t like kale but want to feel good about yourself then go to the Green Grocers.  They are located on Lower Greenville. They have a great drink that includes kale: Their Homebrew Holy Kombucha. I can taste just enough kale without getting the little gag that happens in higher concentrations. Or you can get a great deli sandwich and fresh fruit and sit in their covered front porch. So you can watch the Lower Greenville parade go by.

Green Grocers great sandwichesGreen Grocers modified their business model recently to help them  more effectively compete in the local grocery market. They are definitely worth a visit if high-quality, organic foods are important to you. Plus their staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

INTERIOR SIGNAGE

Accurate Signs has done some simple interior signs for them. To feature their Paninis we did some refrigerated case runners that were applied near the bottom of the refrigerated case.
green grocers paninisCase runners are great options to communicate key features and benefits of the products and services that are most important to the success of your green grocers tacos soupsbusiness. We also did simple informational signs to let their customers know where to find featured producst like the tacos and soup sign.

Green Grocers uses effective fonts and colors which help to emphasize the company’s focus on local, organic foods.

UPSCALE NEIGHBORHOOD

The neighborhood around the Green Grocers has gone through a metamorphisis over the last decade. First, the surrounding houses have dramtically increased in value over the last 30 years. Because of this the entire length of Lower Greenville south of Mockingbird has seen many businesses that had been there for decades replaced with some new, trendy locations that cater to the higher income home owners. In some cases, the change is not good. But the Green Grocers has been a great addition to the avenue and, therefore, I hope they are their for decades to come.
